Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation during which the conscious mind relaxes to such an extent that it is possible to access the subconscious mind. Our subconscious is involved in controlling emotions and influencing responses, perception, and memory. It is the subconscious mind that holds the continuing problems, symptoms, and behaviours that the conscious mind has great difficulty accessing or changing without assistance.
The normal and naturally occurring state called hypnosis is experienced by most if not all of us fairly frequently, for example, when you read a book or watch TV and are oblivious to normal background sounds, or have driven your car on a familiar route only to arrive without remembering part of the journey, you are experiencing hypnosis. Anytime your mind is distracted and yet you are still aware of what is happening around you, you are experiencing hypnosis. If this sounds like a contradiction let me explain. If something out of the ordinary happened such as, smelling smoke while you were reading your book, or the traffic lights changing to red as you were approaching them, your conscious mind would be alerted and you would respond appropriately and immediately. So, the state of hypnosis can actually heighten awareness of what is taking place around you – you are able to hear everything that is being said to you but will be able to filter out that which is unimportant and focus on the important. You will also be able to converse whilst in a hypnotic state, and it is inconceivable that you can be made to do anything against your will or contrary to your personal code of morality whilst in a hypnotic state.
Hypnosis is not at all mysterious or supernatural but is experienced as a feeling of deep therapeutic relaxation where your total concentration is focused inwards while at the same time you retain the control and ability to respond to anything that requires your immediate conscious attention.
Hypnotherapy (50 mins) £50 per session
A hypnotherapist will use the state of hypnosis to reach the subconscious in order to facilitate a beneficial improvement by alleviating the presenting problems or symptoms.
There are two different hypnotherapeutic treatments:
a) One is to use suggestion to suppress a particular problem or symptom. This is ideal for problems such as exam-nerves, insomnia, stopping smoking etc. and would normally require one to two sessions (each session is of 50 minutes to 1 hour duration).
b) The other is analytical or curative hypnotherapy and is used in the treatment of deeper rooted problems such as confidence or self-esteem issues, phobias, anxiety attacks, sexual problems etc. This method explores the cause and effect of specific symptoms and problems in order to identify and remove the cause, and thereby relieving the symptoms, leaving you to get on and enjoy your life. Hypnoanlysis usually takes between four to eight sessions each of 50 minutes to 1 hour in duration.
Hypnotherapy is an individual subjective experience with no harmful side effects. In fact the most common side effect is a feeling of release, relaxation, and well-being.
It would be impossible to list all the problems which can be treated with hypnotherapy, however, below is a list of the more commonly treated problems:
